I forget now exactly how this came about… I think I got a link from my brother Tim to a New York Times article on the topic. However it happened, I was intrigued by the article “A tiny fruit that tricks the tongue” published May 28, 2008, in the Times. I decided to purchase 50 grams of the extract of the so called miracle berries from Bioresources International, Inc., for $80 shipped. I then prepared to test out the powder on a whole bunch of fruit and random foods.
Sadly, no one “got it to work” other than noticing a slight difference in the taste of a lemon. Maybe it was a bad batch, or maybe we didn’t use enough… or maybe it was a scam. I don’t know. I was going to try the actual berries, but haven’t yet made the investment.
Despite the setbacks, it was still a fun preclub even nonetheless.

Oh, I think this was the first or one of the first times I met Ryan and Jamie (who wasn’t here this time). Ryan will go on to become one of the group and a close friend. :-)
