Yesterday, the executive committee of the UW-Madison Faculty Senate released a statement in opposition of the proposed marriage amendment on which Wisconsinites will vote in less than two weeks.
The main reasons UW is against the amendment are:
-Passage of the amendment “will harm the intellectual capacity” of UW and WI.
-It will “erode protections against harassment and discrimination.”
-It will make attracting and keeping UW’s top professors very difficult.
-The amendment signals an intolerant climate in Wisconsin.
-Lastly, the amendment contradicts UW’s goal of providing “broad education.”
